What we do
TCP redefines learning by offering alternative education programmes to young people aged between 12 and 19 and who are finding it difficult to cope in education and training.
This is achieved by involving them in activities that are fun and challenging to promote personal, social and emotional development. In this way confidence and self esteem are developed and the skills learnt are the ability to work as part of a team, leadership, problem solving, use of initiative, communication, ability to form good relationships, coping with authority and the ability to use their emotions as a source of information. The results of this are young people able to make positive changes in their lives.
An emotional intelligence programme helps the individual to be able to identify, acknowledge and understand their own emotions, e.g. the individual should be able to identify how they feel, and instead of being overwhelmed by their emotions and acting irrationally, they should eventually learn to use their emotions as information from which they can learn.
This is essential in order to recognise what they really want and to understanding the impact they have on other people. It should help the individual to develop self-awareness, self-regulation (control), motivation, empathy and social skills, and they should be better able to make important life decisions based upon what they believe to be the correct course of action for them.
