TCP August trip to Snowdonia

TCP young people climbing in Snowdonia

Three members of Tranmere Community Project staff and six young people went on ‘holiday’ to Llanberis to experience outdoor adventures in what were typically wet conditions for this August.  Activities consisted of climbing, abseiling, kayaking, scaling the heights of Y Garn and coasteering, which involves much jumping into the sea!

The quantity and quality of informal education that took place was enormous. The young people gained experience on everything from taking care of their own laundry, expanding their taste in food to learning about mountain environments.

The young people were well behaved and even though it rained continuously they didn’t complain once, engaging in every activity with tons of enthusiasm. They encouraged each other and you could see them relax and engage with the staff as the week went on.

The problems occurred on the night before they were due to come home; they were happy and appreciated the beauty of their surroundings. They had seen the mountains and splashed in the sea, both new experiences to all of them and they didn’t want to go home.

Although these trips are relatively expensive and difficult to fund, they are worth every penny in the new and memorable experiences they give to these young people.
